If...

domineering: (Deception = Double Image)
If she had stopped to ask him where he was going he might have lied to her. He might have tipped his head to the side pondering the web of deceit he was going to let her land into. The words would have flowed from his lips, and lifted to her ears allowing her to believe whatever fantasy that he wanted her to. His tone would be soothing and comforting like a lie that parents told their children nightly. She would watch him walk out that door and head toward whatever world he had created for himself to slip into.

If she had only stop to ask. Instead she had let him go without so much as a word. In his hand was the ice bucket, but by now she realized he hadn't gone to fetch some ice. It had been more than three hours since he departed the room, and she knew in some way that he wasn't going to be returning anytime soon.

If she had been more in control of her own situation when he had flitted back into her life, she might have been better prepared to deal with this. Instead she was in Norwich Connecticut at a hotel that could have doubled for a horror film. Running her hands through her hair pulling it off of her shoulder she glanced at her reflection in the dingy mirror hanging on the wall across from where she sat. "This is some fine mess you've landed yourself in this time."

It wasn't as bad as it felt though. She had left with the intention of seeing how 'the others' lived, and from her point of view it seemed not extremely well. Lauren could have been in Maui or somewhere in the Caribbian lounging poolside waiting for a new drink. This was merely a sacrifice she had made to try and reach Julian. Instead it appeared that Julian was too distracted reaching out to someone else.

If Lauren hadn't been so curious as to why he had selected this location she might not have found out about the Gibson family. She wasn't a fool, and someone once told her she was ambitious, so it only went to show that she had her own interests at heart when she did the tiny peek into just what Julian had been up to since she last saw him.

She had given him a chance, a moment to realize that the Gibson girl, was just another version of Sydney Bristow. The woman that would always drive him to that point of frustration purely out of some misguided feeling that he could change his ways.

If he had known better, he would have just changed, for this was merely trivial to Lauren now. She wasn't sure if she could survive another relationship where there was another woman drawing attention away from herself. Still regardless of whatever actions he took that afternoon, Lauren simply had to believe that this was who he was, and if she didn't know that by now she had been a fool as well.
